the space around, scattered dust
My series, the space around, delves into the patterns of the night sky, those distant suns that have inspired legends, beliefs, fear, and hope. When I gaze up into the night, I'm struck by its vastness and enormity. Regardless of the inspiration it conjures, the night sky remains a mass of tiny lights existing in the infinite expanse of space, beckoning me away from my small corner of understanding and out into the unknown.
I titled this series the space around, because it reflects the problem I'm trying to solve—the empty space around a random pattern. Through my drawings, I aim to craft a mystery waiting to be unraveled. Using dropped beads, scattered glitter, and sprinkled salt, I create configurations that mirror the chaotic design of the cosmos. Each particle is then encircled, and I meticulously shade the space around each circle with layers of graphite, embracing both spontaneity and problem-solving.
My work is driven by a balance between disciplined practice and emotional expression, capturing the essence of memories and experiences. This series is about searching—about trying to uncover something deeper within myself through the imagery of the unknown.
