The random patterns of the night sky, distant suns that have inspired legends, beliefs, fear and hope. There is a vastness, an enormity when we look up into the night. But not matter what inspiration it conjures, the night sky is nothing more that tiny lights in the vastness of space, beckoning us away from our small corner of understanding out into the unknown.

“the space around” series is created by allowing a variety of particulates to drop onto a surface and then carefully charting where each object lands. That spot is then preserved while the space aound it is meticulously shaded in and built up with layers of graphite.
